Summer 2025/26

My internship at San Juan Sports provided hands-on experience across nearly every facet of the retail business, including buying, trend forecasting, visual merchandising, marketing, consumer profiling, and strategic planning. Working closely with store leadership, I helped evaluate seasonal assortments and customer preferences while assisting in the selection of merchandise that aligned with emerging trends and the needs of the store’s outdoor-focused clientele. I also regularly styled mannequins and created product displays that highlighted new arrivals while thoughtfully integrating existing inventory to maximize visual impact and encourage cross-selling.

One of the most valuable aspects of the internship was the opportunity to contribute to buying decisions, including the selection of the Patagonia Spring 2026 assortment. Through consumer research, competitive analysis, and trend forecasting, I gained firsthand experience in making data-informed merchandising decisions and understanding how product selection influences both brand identity and customer engagement. I also developed a comprehensive managerial improvement plan and participated in marketing initiatives that strengthened my knowledge of retail operations beyond the sales floor.

Although San Juan Sports is a local business in a small town, its consumer base reaches over different states and maintains very loyal customers. That environment became one of the greatest advantages of my internship. Rather than being limited to a single department, I was able to participate in almost every aspect of the business, gaining a well-rounded understanding of how buying, merchandising, marketing, inventory management, and customer experience work together. The experience provided an exceptional level of responsibility and exposure that deepened my passion for the industry and prepared me to approach retail with both strategic insight and creative problem-solving.
